Cloud Computing
Cloud computing / cloud processing refers to a model in which the client is not responsible for hardware maintenance or server upkeep. The service provider (e.g., Azure, Amazon) maintains the data centers and allocates dedicated resources to its clients. Within cloud services, several models can be distinguished. The most popular are:
- IaaS – Infrastructure as a Service, where the client purchases a specified amount of compute power and storage
- PaaS – Platform as a Service, where the client receives a ready-to-use suite of applications hosted on the provider’s servers
- SaaS – Software as a Service, where the client pays for access to a specific application without having to manage disks, compute power, or application security
